Caroline Knollys discovers her husband Hubert in the arms of his secretary, Emily. Determined to teach him a lesson, she leaves for Europe without revealing her pregnancy, becomes a noted society figure abroad, and later returns with young architect Lawrence Sanbury under her patronage.
Hubert’s jealousy grows as Caroline maintains her independence. When he seeks evidence for divorce, Caroline instead introduces him to their son, prompting reconciliation and a restored family order.

Background:
Produced by the independent Chadwick Pictures and released on a states-rights basis, The Unchastened Woman was adapted from Louis K. Anspacher’s 1915 Broadway play. The film marked Theda Bara’s much-publicized comeback and proved to be her final feature appearance after an absence from screens since 1919.
---
Trivia:
The Unchastened Woman was the last feature film of silent-era star Theda Bara, famed for her “vamp” persona; she had not appeared on screen since late 1919.
Director James Young was formerly married to prominent silent-film actress Clara Kimball Young.
The story had been filmed previously in 1918 with Grace Valentine in the lead, underscoring the play’s popularity in the 1910s.
Surviving prints are held by the Academy Film Archive, George Eastman Museum, and Cineteca del Friuli, making it one of the relatively few Bara titles extant.
Distribution followed the states-rights model common among independents of the period rather than a single national distributor.
