Summary:
Harry Shelby, long kept in knee breeches by his parents, finally dons long pants and fancies himself a man. Pressed toward marriage with his wholesome sweetheart Priscilla, he instead falls for Bebe Blair, a worldly “bad girl” with criminal ties.
Harry’s infatuation propels him from small-town naiveté into urban scrapes, jailbreak schemes, and comic peril, before the consequences of his folly steer him back toward home and responsibility. The film blends slapstick with a gently satirical look at adolescent desire, delusion, and the awkward steps toward adulthood.

Background:
Produced by the Harry Langdon Corporation and distributed by First National Pictures, Long Pants was released after a preview said to run nine reels and then trimmed to a six-reel release. Trade reports noted a planned Technicolor dream sequence that was likely deleted or printed in black and white. The film’s working title was Johnny Newcomer, and it marked the final collaboration between star Harry Langdon and director Frank Capra.
---
Trivia:
The working title was Johnny Newcomer.
New York premiere took place on March 26, 1927; general release followed on April 10, 1927.
Preview audiences reportedly saw a longer, nine-reel version before the film was cut to six reels for release.
A dream sequence was reported in Technicolor, but modern sources believe it was removed or later printed in black and white.
Frankie Darro is cited by modern sources as appearing as young Harry in material not always present in surviving prints.
Published sources list running times between 60 and 70 minutes, reflecting print and speed variations.
