Summary:
A Kentucky horseman, Mr. Beaumont, stakes his fortunes and his family’s hopes on a filly named Virginia’s Future. A disastrous spill in a major race ruins him financially and drives his family apart. The injured mare is saved by trainer Mike Donovan and later foals a colt, Confederacy, who is sold off as Beaumont disappears from his former life.
Years later, Confederacy emerges as a contender. Ridden by Donovan’s son, he runs in a climactic Futurity as Beaumont and Donovan wager their last resources. Victory offers redemption and the chance to reclaim Virginia’s Future, restoring bonds between people and horses alike.

Background:
Produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation, the picture was photographed in part on location in Kentucky’s Bluegrass region and is unusually told from the point of view of the horse, Virginia’s Future. A preservation print resides at the Museum of Modern Art; in 2017 MoMA restored the film in 4K using nitrate elements, with funding from Twentieth Century Fox.

Trivia:
Several celebrated Thoroughbreds appear on screen, including Man o’ War, Fair Play, Negofol, The Finn, and Morvich.
The film was released in France under the title La Fille de Négofol.
An early opening was held in Charleston, West Virginia, on August 6, 1925, ahead of the general release.
AFI records list the film at 6,597 feet across seven reels.
