Summary:
In eighteenth‑century England, the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin robs the rich and aids the poor. After crossing the villainous Lord Churlton, Turpin encounters Lady Alice Brookfield, who is being coerced into marrying Churlton. Disguises, narrow escapes, and a ruse at a prizefight follow as Turpin tries to spirit Alice to safety.
Captured and sentenced to hang, Turpin is saved at the last moment by his ally Tom King. Mounting his horse Black Bess, he makes a desperate ride to York, foils Churlton’s plans, and flees to France with Alice, resolving to abandon his outlaw life.

Background:
Produced and distributed by Fox Film Corporation and photographed by Daniel B. Clark, the film marked Tom Mix’s first departure from his customary Westerns into a period “costume” adventure. It opened in New York on January 24, 1925, with general release on February 1, 1925, and has been reported as restored by The Film Foundation.
---
Trivia:
Future star Carole Lombard was filmed in several scenes, but most of her material was cut from the final release.
Surviving prints are held by the George Eastman Museum, the Swedish Film Institute , and the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
Fox later issued a Spanish musical version, El caballero de la noche , based on the same story material.
The production used Fox’s Hollywood studios on Western Avenue, with reports of swordplay training for cast members during off days.
A Variety report cited a rumored $400,000 budget and praised the picture as an unusually elaborate Tom Mix feature.
