Summary:
A stray angora goat takes a shine to Stan and Ollie after they feed it, trailing them back to their lodgings. The pair try to conceal the animal from their irritable landlord, setting off a chain of increasingly chaotic attempts to keep the peace and care for their malodorous new companion.
The film builds to a slapstick deluge when the duo decide to wash the goat, flooding the room below and provoking an all-out watery melee with the landlord and a policeman, before a final gag reveals the goat’s multiplying surprise.

Background:
Produced by Hal Roach and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Angora Love was shot in March 1929 and released with a synchronized musical score and effects, making it Laurel and Hardy’s final release without audible dialogue. Elements of its scenario and gags were later reworked in the sound short Laughing Gravy and echoed in subsequent films. Technical details include standard 35mm, 1.33:1, two reels, and a pipe-organ-led track.
---
Trivia:
Penelope is the name often given to the film’s scene-stealing goat in contemporary and retrospective accounts.
Principal photography took place March 8–14, 1929.
Angora Love premiered December 14, 1929, after preview screenings earlier in the year.
Several routines were reused: the bathing-animal set-piece and related business reappear in Laughing Gravy , with additional echoes noted in The Chimp and other shorts.
Cinematography was by George Stevens, with intertitles by H. M. Walker and editing by Richard C. Currier.
