Streets of Rage 2 | 1992 | Sega Genesis | Emulated | RetroArch

Streets of Rage 2, released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis, is widely considered one of the greatest beat-‘em-up games of all time. It’s a direct sequel that improved everything—bigger sprites, deeper combat, more variety, and one of the most legendary video game soundtracks ever made (shoutout to Yuzo Koshiro). This time, Mr. X is back, and he’s kidnapped Adam Hunter. It’s up to Axel, Blaze, Adam’s little brother Skate, and new powerhouse Max Thunder to clean up the streets with fists, knees, and suplexes. What made it hit so hard: 4 unique playable characters with individual movesets Special attacks and combos, including throws and aerials 2-player co-op for double the beatdowns One of the most beloved soundtracks in gaming history Beautiful pixel art and smooth animations for the time Tight, responsive combat that still holds up today If you’re into Final Fight, TMNT, or Double Dragon, Streets of Rage 2 is right up there—and maybe even better. This video includes the iconic title screen loop and sample gameplay from the Genesis original.
